CALM Domain
Class:Phospholipid binding

Structure:
“The CALM/ANTH domain of AP180 bound to PtdIns(4,5)P2”

Domain binding and function:
The CALM (Clathrin Assembly Lymphoid Myeloid) domain, also known as ANTH, conforms to a structure similar to the ENTH domain with the addition of one or more α-helix.  Although both CALM/ANTH and ENTH domains bind PtdIns(4,5)P2 with high specificity, they differ in the manner in which they bind.   ENTH domains bind PtdIns(4,5)P2 in a pocket whereas ANTH domains doe not have a well defined binding pocket but instead uses surface exposed basic residues to coordinate the ligand.  CALM/ANTH domain proteins include AP180 and CALM that are implicated in the formation of clathrin-coated pits.
